#9 - Skills Training
Please allow us to introduce you to Stella Duyen who, at 21 years of age, has been a part of the Point Hope Ghana Youth Club for over 6 years. She was orphaned in Liberia and traveled to the Buduburam Refugee Camp with her auntie as a pre-teen. Now, totally alone in the world (her extended family was resettled in Canada without her), she needed assistance to start a self-sustaining business. Stella is gifted at handcrafts, but still needed to hone her craft and learn basic business principles to succeed. Stella approached Point Hope Ghana about sponsorship. After sitting down with her and working out a plan for success, we agreed to help her and feel confident that Stella will gain skills she needs to support herself in the future.
Here’s part of an interview with Stella:
Q: What is the name of your school?
A: Chi Love Fashion and Design
Q: What is the name of the program you are completing?
A: Bead and Hat Making
Q: How many days a week/how many hours a week do you attend classes?
A: Mondays-Fridays 12pm to 4pm, the training will last for six months
Q: What are your future ambitions once you have completed this course?
A: After completing this course I will like to open my own business and in time train others
Q: What is your favorite thing about your training?
A: What I like about the training is the fact that the classes are effective, it creates an atmosphere where I can push myself to be creative.
Q: Is there anything else you would like to share about the skills training opportunity Point Hope and our donors has made available for you?
