Point Hope Chapters: Mission & Philosophy
FOUNDED BY DELILAH, INSPIRED BY GOD…
POINT HOPE’S mission is to be a Voice for Forgotten Children. Who is a forgotten child? The vulnerable among us, whether they are in foster care or homeless or simply a child in need, wherever they come from or whatever their background. Sometimes this includes the family or support system of a child, as each child does not and cannot exist alone, without being a part of community.
POINT HOPE knows that children have different needs at different ages, so from baby to young adulthood, we try to help meet those needs, often in partnership with local foster care agencies, state children services, local foster families and homeless shelters.
POINT HOPE has found that older children often fall through the cracks, societal gaps, where the support they need, even for simple things like clothing and personal hygiene items, isn’t available. There are often programs and special events held for younger children, especially around “Back to School” and Christmas time. Younger children might seem easier, cuter, or just less demanding because their interests and personalities are not as developed, and they are easier to please and accommodate. Older children still need attention, but with more personality and specific interests, they can be harder to please and to interact with; it can take time to create bonds and for them to develop openness to determine needs.
POINT HOPE created “Point Hope Teenista” events (with a “fashionista” emphasis for teen girls) to help fill this need for young women (12-19 years of age). We want to create a similar event for young men, but it hasn’t been fully developed, yet. (Anyone willing to help get this going, we are looking for your involvement!)
